HKU Graduate Internship Programme

HKU fresh graduates who wish to gain experience in the workplace can apply to take part in the HKU Graduate Internship Programme, which lasts for four months and has a quota of 50. Successful applicants can gain on-the-job experience and understanding of University operations while contributing to their alma mater. The programme will commence in August 2020.

The programme provides

    Faculty of Arts The appointee will develop various web applications under supervision, support different IT projects of the Faculty, and assist in system maintenance, and/or research potential internship providers and manage the database, assist in the liaison with companies/organisations in setting up new internship and experiential learning opportunities, and assist in promoting internship and experiential learning programmes to students. The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or relevant degree programme, be familiar with programming language, have strong communication skills, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, potential to be a good team player, proficiency in using Excel, Word etc., and good command in written and spoken English.
    Department of Chemistry The appointee will be responsible for web pages designs for major programs (i.e. SKL, InnoHealth HKG), assist in lab store administration works, online teaching preparations, and GDLAB postgraduates recruitment. The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree, have good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, knowledge in the use of Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign), knowledge of HTML, CSS and PHP, web sites design and maintenance, course web support, and artwork design.
    Common Core Office The appointee will support Common Core teachers, students, teaching assistants and tutors with online teaching and learning. The appointee should have video editing skills and experience of using games (digital and non-digital).
    Faculty of Education The appointee will: (1) provide administrative support for enhancing the Faculty visibility and corporate image, and promoting the Faculty's programmes via online & offline marketing platforms and programme promotional activities, (2) assist in providing technical support to the classes and teachers in the Faculty, and assist in evaluating and implementing innovative classroom technologies to facilitate and enhance teaching and learning experience. (1) The appointee should possess a good Bachelor’s degree, preferably in English Language, Media, Public Relations, Corporate Communications, or Marketing, have proficiency in IT (e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Weibo, etc.), be a good team player with good interpersonal and communication skills, positive attitude, self-motivation and attention to details. (2) The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree related to Information Technology, have a good command of spoken and written Chinese and English and a strong sense of responsibility, self-motivation and the ability to work independently, and good knowledge in IT applications and software for teaching and learning in HKU (e.g. Zoom, Moodle, Panopto, etc.). Experience in supporting classroom AV and computing equipment/technologies would be an advantage.
    Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering The appointee will assist in the areas of program development, laboratory assistance, and project coordinator. The appointee should have knowledge in IT, Programming, and Technical & Engineering.
    Information Technology Services (1) The appointee will work as an Information Security (IS) Promotion Coordinator to coordinate and assist in various IS awareness programmes, such as meet-up sessions, IS roadshows and innovative promotion materials production (e.g. micro film (微電影)). Basic training on concepts of information security will be provided. (2) The appointee will participate in network infrastructure and data centre implementation projects (e.g. WiFi, UPS, IoT). (3) The appointee will assist in feedback and ideas generation, devise effective communication channels with students, understand the IT needs of students, and participate in focus groups or quality circles to drive for service improvement. (4) The appointee will manage and operate video conference equipment and software, Audio-Visual (AV)/IT facilities in teaching venues, learning commons and open areas, and carry out tasks in AV remodelling projects. The appointee should be fluent in spoken Cantonese and English, with good communication skills. They should possess pleasant character, being self-motivated, positive-minded, people and service oriented and willing to learn. (2) The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering. (3) The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, and be smart and presentable. (4) The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Information Technology or Engineering.
    Internal Audit Office The appointee will assist supervisors in carrying out internal audit reviews of operations of departments (including data searching & analysis, compliance testing, and fieldworks), annual audit program and ad hoc reviews. The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance and/or Management Studies, have good command of written and spoken English and Chinese, strong analytical and communication skills, and proficiency in PC and accounting software applications.
    School of Nursing The appointee will: (1) provide administrative and logistic support to programme administration and coordination, (2) provide support for events, meetings and visitors, and assist in production of publicity materials, (3) provide IT support for the School, including but not limit to, graphic design for School publications and communication collaterals, e-learning platform development, photo or video taking/editing for School activities, and assist in web and multimedia production. (1) The appointee should have a good command of written and spoken English, good computer application skillset (i.e. Excel, Word, Power Point and Chinese word processing), and a strong sense of responsibility, mature, organised, and attentive to details. (2) The appointee should be meticulous, tactful in dealing with people and able to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. (3) The appointee should have knowledge of Adobe After Effect and Photoshop, new multimedia technology (e.g. 360° video), video live streaming, video-editing, photography, good senses in visual and graphic presentations (including augmented reality and video production) and apps development.
    Faculty of Science The appointee will: (1) assist in the resolution of e-learning queries from teaching staff, and production of e-learning materials, (2) assist in the hardware and software maintenance and support, network/security checking and troubleshooting, and online system development, testing and documentation. The appointee should have: (1) skills in animation making and video editing, (2) Knowledge of system and network and knowledge in web application programming.
    Centre For Sports and Exercise Graduates from the Exercise and Health degree often find alternative postgraduate studies or job opportunities unrelated to their learning. Having an internship programme allows the appointee to see a viable career pathway but also provides Active Health Clinic with vetting of prospective employees. The appointee will be provided with practical experience in Health and Fitness Testing, Exercise prescription and counselling, sports administration, sports performance and facility management. The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Health or related degree, Kinesiology minor. Certificate in Personal Training an advantage but not a must. The appointee should be independent thinking, self-motivated, driven, reliable and willing to continue to learn and develop.
    Teaching and Learning Evaluation and Measurement Unit The appointee will support various institutional surveys and projects on teaching and learning, collection and analysis of data, production of reports, conduct of interviews, and assistance of general administration. The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Sciences, Statistics or a related discipline. Proficiency with SPSS, Excel and other statistical analysis software (such as, R) is essential. Some work experience in quantitative and qualitative analyses is preferred.
    Technology-Enriched Learning Initiative The appointee will provide frontline e-learning technical support for teachers to facilitate online teaching for the academic year 2020-2021. The job starts in July 2020. The appointee should have good IT and communication skills. Training on e-learning platforms will be provided.
    Centre of Buddhist Studies The appointee will be responsible for a wide range of administrative matters of the Centre, assist in event management and programme matters, assist in fund raising matters; website management and any other duties as assigned. The appointee may be required to work outside normal office hours and on weekends. The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree and have hands-on computer knowledge and appropriate level of IT skills, preferably with knowledge for making webpage.
    Estates Office The appointee will have the opportunity to participate in one of the HKU large scale M&E installation projects (chiller plant replacement). The appointee will involve in technical design, program, safety and quality controls, coordination with various parties including contractors, consultants, government authorities, internal user groups, and in-house bodies in relation to project execution, and may attend witness tests of M&E equipment in Mainland China. The appointee will also participate in the ventilation assessment of campus facilities and the associated ventilation improvement projects. The appointee should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical (Building Services) / Electrical Engineering or a related discipline, and have good communication skills and working knowledge of computer software.
    Safety Office The appointee will assist the Director of Safety to manage coordination work to engage various departments and stakeholders to put in place all necessary infection control measures in preparation for campus reopening in September. The appointee have to organise and attend meetings with the Director of Safety, follow up on matters after meetings, edit and collate documents, check on implementation and write simple reports. The appointee should have good communication skills in both English and Chinese, good analytical and writing skills, ability to edit and format a wide range of documents in different formats, ability to collate documents and organise them into a systematic structure, be available to organise and attend meetings at short notice. Those having an interest in public health will be an advantage.
