About the Programme

Have you ever heard of the term ‘sunset industry’? In the era of rapid technological advancement, the wide application of machinery leapfrogs production efficiencies by hundredfolds. However, the beauty of traditional craftsmanship has slowly got eliminated as time goes by. Movable-type printing, one of the four great inventions in China that symbolises the technological revolution in printing history, slowly got eliminated due to its limited productivity.

This programme aims to give participants an overview of this valuable printing technique through a guided tour at a printing factory that has been preserving the art of movable-type printing for more than 60 years in Hong Kong. What's more? Participants will get the chance to pass on the baton of this traditional culture by creating stamps that mimic the printing technique with children on the service day.
