Tips for Managing Aggression

  1. Ensure your own safety first.
  2. Get assistance from others nearby. Avoid handling the situation alone.
  3. Contact the staff-in-charge (e.g. Warden) immediately.
  4. Call a mental health professional immediately. e.g. University Health Service and CEDARS-CoPE
  5. After-hour Back-up Service (for staff use only)
  6. Show empathy and concern.
  7. Do not argue with the student.
  8. Let the student know you would be more able to help if he/she can calm down.
  9. Explore ways to help him/ her to feel more comfortable to talk e.g. sit down, take a break etc.
  10. Call the Security Control Centre at (852) 3917-2882 and police if the safety of the student, you and or other people is/ are endangered.
