LE-3-01 Intensified Learning Opportunity Programme (ILOP)

ILOP provides 10 months of intensive learning opportunities including Student-Initiated Local Project on Social Sustainability, Training Courses, Adventure Camp, Organisation Visits and Overseas Study Trip on Social Sustainability. Our activities are in line with the HKU educational aims particularly in developing the participants into leaders who can advocate effectively for the improvement of the human condition.

ILOP provides fourteen months of intensive learning opportunities including Personal Development, Service Learning & Volunteering, Overseas Internship, and Mentorship Scheme. Our activities are in line with the HKU educational aims particularly in developing the participants into leaders who can advocate effectively for the improvement of the human condition

All full-time students are welcome to apply for the form though priority will be given to second year undergraduates.

Food Justices

Co-organising with Oxfam Hong Kong, the programme focuses on bringing out the message of “How the poor survive under soaring food prices” to the general public. Students are invited to join their research and field work for collecting stories to be showcased in exhibition through a specialised mobile truck.

HKU ’82 Alumni Green Fund

Application GuidelineObjectives 

  • to educate primary and secondary students about global warming through programmes organized by students of the University;
  • to train leaders of tomorrow with commitment to sustainable development;
  • to support the University and its students in establishing their leading position in advocating sustainable development.

Eligible Projects

  1. Funding is granted to projects which aim to enhance public engagement with the global warming and preferably target primary and /or secondary school students in the following forms:
    • Voluntary service;
    • Public education programmes or publication;
    • Research;
    • Learning opportunities which meet the overall objectives of the Fund.
  2. HKU student societies, individual students, independent student groups, departments, and staffs may submit applications for the Fund.

Selection Criteria

HKU ’82 Alumni Green Fund will give preference to projects that demonstrate one or more of the following:

  • To educate the public and students about global warming;
  • To train University students with commitment to sustainable development;
  • To fund projects targeting primary / or secondary school students.

Funding Available

  • Grants to each project may not exceed HK$50,000. Projects involving a substantial number of target participants (i.e. public, primary and/or secondary school students) can be considered for a grant exceeding the ceiling;
  • The Committee may exercise discretion to approve grants over the limit of $50,000;
  • The Funding level depends on the merits of the proposal.

Application Process

If you are eligible to apply for the Fund, please follow the instructions below:

  • Applicants should submit their application and proposal online by 6:00 pm, 10 October, 2014 (Friday).
  • The proposal can be up to 6 pages long (in 12-point font) plus additional 10 pages of appendices.

Please submit in your application form the following information:

  • Personal particulars or background of student societies;
  • A research proposal, or a proposal for service, public education or of other nature;
  • A budget and the amount of grant being sought.

In your proposal, please include the following:

  • Executive summary
  • Objectives of the project
  • Expected learning outcome
  • Project activities and time line
  • Budget
  • Evaluation   

Selection & Schedule

Selection for the awards will be conducted by the Steering Committee of the Fund.
Funding decisions will be made approximately 8 weeks after the deadline and announced by email.

GC-1-02 Green Films@HKU

These monthly screenings feature high quality documentaries and short films on the environmental, social and economic aspects of sustainable development.

Green Films are co-organised by HKU Sustainability Office and CEDARS.

These monthly social, educational, networking events bring together students, faculty, staff and professionals in the Hong Kong community actively engaged in building a more sustainable world. The event is organised in such an atmosphere with light snacks and drinks.

Green Drinks are co-organised by HKU Sustainability Office and CEDARS.
